Named in honour of Desmond Trannore

Senior Constable TrennorSenior Constable Desmond Trannore, Registered Number 5091 joined the Queensland Police Force in 1951 at the age of 22 years.

On the 27th October 1964 while stationed at Gordonvale, 14 miles south of Cairns, he was called to a domestic disturbance on a farm outside of the town. While standing on the steps of the farmhouse Constable Trannore was shot dead by the resident, John Thomas Verney.

Some 300 police were to later join the hunt for Verney who subsequently surrendered the following morning.

Verney was arrested and charged with the murder of Senior Constable Trannore and sentenced to life imprisonment.

"D. Trannore III"

The "D. TRANNORE III" was launched on the 9th April 2009 by Senior Constable Trannore's widow (see photo right) in the presence of the Police Minister Neil Roberts, Deputy Commissioner Kathy Rynders and invited guest.

Capable of speeds in excess of 45 knots the "D. TRANNORE II" was built by Swift Marine of the Gold Coast and is a rigid hull inflatable speedboat capable of carrying up to 12 people. The "D. TRANNORE II" was purpose built for use by the Redland Bay Water Police to patrol the waterways and islands of Moreton Bay.
